4. What do I need to start supping?
You need four things to start supping. Most importantly you of course need a sup board. Besides that you also need a paddle. Important to know when choosing a SUP paddle is that the material used is determining the weight of the paddle. An aluminum paddle is heavier than a carbon one. You could also pick materials like carbon fibre or plastic. Check what most suits you and get the right length. If you put the paddle straight up on the sup board, the tip should be about eye height. Also you need a cord or leash that keeps the SUP board attached to you. When you fall off of your SUP board, it could float away from you in the time it takes you to resurface. The sup board could dart away while falling, which could cause you to lose it. This is especially annoying when you got startled after falling into deeper water. You'll want to clamp on to your sup board right away. Finally you need a life jacket. If you're a great swimmer and only SUP in quiet and closed off waters, you might not think it is necessary. However, a life vest could still come in very handy. When you reach a higher speed and fall down, you can get desoriented under water. Your life jacket will make sure you resurface.
5. How do I transport the sup board?
Our sup boards can be transported in any regular car. You could even carry it on your bicycle if you would like to. With a hardshell board you always have to take a different kind of transportation into mind. You need an imperial on the roof or on the back of your car, so you can bring your SUP along safely. It is important to protect your board while you're on the way, for example against scattering pebbels. If you would always like to transport your sup board easily, it is of course a better option to pick an inflatable sup board. It might be appealing to just drag the sup board behind you when heading to the water or when going back out. This is not recommended. You could seriously damage the board, in case of an inflatable board you could cause a leak.
6. How do I use the SUP paddle?
A lot of beginners do not know how to hold the sup board paddle and how to steer with it, which makes supping rather difficult. It is important to hold the sup paddle with one hand on the top and one hand around the axis. Do not go paddling with both hands on the axis of the paddle. Keep your hands about one shoulder length apart. This will give you most control over your sup paddle. Dip the blade of the paddle completely under water while paddling. If you cannot do this without bending over, you will need a longer sup paddle. Make long strokes in the water to speed up.
